Look Out!

There new things on the horizon!

I have waited such a long time for this day to come... as of tonight at 11pm my husband will no longer be a security guard at the University of Utah. I am grateful he was able to have this job for so long and for all the perks involved. I am even more grateful that I have the job I do and that he can finally quit. We are used to having our weekends and then essentially saying goodbye for the week. He is asleep when I leave and I am asleep when he gets home. FINALLY we can see each other awake!

Look out Cleaver's the Smith's are having family dinners too!

Thankful

I am grateful for:

Flower deliveries.
Notes sent in the mail.
Late night visits and talks.
Kids that miss me when I take a day off.
Text messages.
Sleeping in.
This guy:

But most of all I am grateful for my testimony of the gospel, and a Heavenly Father who loves me. He understands my faults, my weaknesses, and my pain.
I truly have much to be thankful for.

I have an idea...

I know.... I have so much catching up to do and a billion things to post about but I don't have time right this second! I will say this much my classroom is up and running and I have the best second graders with funny personalities who I already ADORE! And I will share this funny little tid bit from my day today.

My students are making calendars for their parents for christmas, which means we need to do one art project a week until then to get them finished! This weeks project: tear art. Students had paper and glue and that was it to create whatever they wanted. This little boy who I just love had the following conversation with me:

Me: Okay guys, remember you can make your picture of whatever you want as long as it is not violent.
Him: Mrs. Smith is JarJar Binks fighting a Storm Trooper violent?
Me: Sorry bud that is probably not the best idea... could you make them but not fighting?
Him: Hmmm...(hand on head, finger flies into the air) I have an idea!
Me: Awesome, get to work.

10 minutes later:

Him: Look Mrs. Smith! I added a disco ball and now they are just dancing!
Me: .... speechless.... this is what I saw:

I wish I could keep it forever! Such a funny boy!

More later! Peace Out!

And then I fell in love all over again...

Tuesday July 7, 2009: I loaded up four baskets of dirty clothes and hauled them over to Corbin's Grandma's house to do laundry, because we do not currently have a washer and dryer. I started a load and Grandma called me into the spare room asking for some help sorting some pictures and getting rid of some old slides. Nine hours later... the laundry is done, the pictures are sorted, Grandma and I have bonded more, and I walked away with these little gems.

{Cyclist in training}

{I love the zoned out tv face, Kit Kat in hand, and discarded vampire teeth!}

If my husband was more adorable as I child I might have died! You see I have never looked at his baby pictures... tragic right!

But this little cowboy just stole my heart all over again!

Playing Catch Up

Long time no see... or post... whatever you want to call it!

May and June were and still are some crazy months at our house and I am so behind! I plan on catching anyone who actually reads this silly blog up though! Let's start with the biggest event... 23 years in the making:

It is official... I am a TEACHER!!! I graduated on May 8th! I accepted a job not long after that at Diamond Ridge Elementary teaching second grade. This will be our schools first year open and I am super excited to be a part of that! Anyway back to graduation...

I was once told a story about a veteran war pilot who was given the chance in his lifetime to meet the man who packed his parachute. This parachute saved his life. I was reminded of this story on a friends blog and it got me thinking. How many times in life do we let the people who "pack our parachute" daily, go unnoticed. I for one know that I take many of the people in my life for granted, it is something I need to be better about voicing. So here it goes:

To my parents- Thank you for instilling me with love for learning, and a passion for literature. Who knows where I would be in this life had you not placed an emphasis on these values in our home. Thank you for giving me my independence and letting me fall when I believed I was right. Thank you for helping me back up during these times. I am forever grateful for your patience and your love.

To my siblings: Thank you for making me laugh and teaching me patience :) I love you for it! I have a blast with all three of you!

To my friends: Thank you for listening to me whine about homework and giving me breaks when I needed them! Even though school practically eliminated my time for a social life you still invited me out and continued to do so after all the turned down offers! You girls always make me smile when I see you. And Al... my days would just not be right without your texts!

To my classmates: What a wild ride! The early morning classes, the laughing, the crying, the stress, the fun... I would have died without you guys! Melinda, Michelle, Magda, Joe, and Mat... Thanks for all the crazy memories! You guys will all be amazing teachers. I have learned many things from all of you and I am so glad our paths crossed! We have to get together soon!

and last but not least To my Husband: Your patience astounds me. This last year of school, all 51 credit hours of mine, was stressful. BUt, you were always there for me and supporting me. Teaching is something I love and you have always supported me in the pursuit of my goal, even though my pay checks will never do our sacrifice justice. Thank you for coming to teach science in my class, thank you for letting me spend every penny on books, and thank you for constantly listening to stories about my kids! You are one of kind and I love you! Without you this never would have happened!

I can not believe that college is really over. I look forward to my new job, it will be an adventure to say the least. But, I look back on my college years with fondness. One adventure over, and another just beginning.

I can't wait!
